Titchmarsh Parish Council

The Parish Council consists of nine elected members of the village; our details are shown on the Titchmarsh Parish Council Members page.

Our main aim is to represent the interests of parishioners at local, regional and national level, and to contribute to the debate on issues that might affect them. Details of our main areas of responsibility can be found on the Main Areas of Responsibility page.

We all give our time freely, although our Clerk (who deals with all correspondence, sets our meeting agendas and takes minutes, collects rents, writes letters on our behalf and keeps our financial records) receives a salary. Parishioners are encouraged to communicate with the Parish Council, bringing any matters of concern to our attention. All communications should be addressed to our Clerk.

The Parish Council meets on the 3rd Thursday of every month at 7.30pm in the village Clubroom. The agenda and minutes of our meetings are displayed on the village notice board, situated at the entrance to the Clubroom. The agenda and minutes are also available on this site. We support the village newsletter Titchmarsh Times, which is published every other month, and we use this forum as a way of keeping the parishioners in touch with current issues.

Parish Council meetings are open to members of the public and press, who are welcome to come along and observe. Each meeting begins with an open session, at which parishioners are invited to address the Council on any relevant matter of interest to them.

In May each year we hold the Annual Parish Meeting, at which the Council reports on its work over the previous twelve months and its aspirations for the future. Also invited to this meeting are other groups and individuals who play a role in the life of the community. These include the police, pathway warden, district and county councillors and representatives from different village organisations. This meeting provides people in the parish with a unique opportunity to contribute to the discussion of the future direction that the community might take. As Parish Councillors we regard ourselves as being at the grass roots of local government. However, to undertake our work effectively we work closely with other councils, primarily those representing the district and county. For example, in resolving decisions relating to planning we work mainly with East Northamptonshire District Council whereas on matters concerning roads, our link is with Northamptonshire County Council. In this work we liaise closely with elected representatives at both tiers of government. Our interests in the District are represented by Cllr. Philip Hardcastle, and in the County by Cllr. Bob Seery. The MP representing the area is Phil Hope.
