Titchmarsh Fete

Saturday 12th June 2010

The annual Church Fete, held on this year on 12 June once again proved to be a highlight of the village year. The Fete is a longstanding part of Titchmarsh life and used to be held in the gardens of The Old Rectory and Titchmarsh House. However, these days the Fete is altogether a bigger village event, which is now held in the Church and School fields.

The Fete relies on the support of the whole village - either in the planning and manning of stalls, or in joining in the fun to raise money for various village groups and good causes. This year over £4,500 was raised from a variety of activities from bouncy castles, 'Smash the egg' a raffle, tombola, plant sale, BBQ and bar, cake stall and many more.

The most unusual activity has to be the ‘Parachuting Teddies’ event, where competitors sew parachutes onto their prize teddy, which is then hurled off the Church spire – the one that stays in the air longest wins!

2010 was a bumper year, with a record number of entries from around the globe, and a record set for the longest teddy bear flight of 94.32 seconds
