Village Pubs

One hundred years ago there were five Public Houses in the village, serving a population of 650 and open from 6am to 10pm. They were:

The Rose and Crown in Church Street
The Dog and Partridge on the Upper Green
The Wheatsheaf at the corner of High Street and North Street
The Vine in Polopit
The Carpenter’s Arms in Chapel Street

Only two of these establishments are still in business today, The Dog and Partridge and The Wheatsheaf, although their opening hours have changed!
