The school has an interesting, long, and proven history, with log books in existence from the mid 1800’s. Whilst maintaining its links with its valued, traditional past, the school is forward-looking, embracing and implementing change which considered will enhance the progress and development of the pupils.

This Lower School provides a broad and balanced curriculum with carefully-designed enriching experiences provided for all pupils from four to nine years of age. The present role stands at 65 with an annual admission number of 15 children.

As a result of funds being awarded to us by the County Council, we are planning to replace the existing mobile classrooms with permanent structures. We anticipate the building work will commence in early 2010 and be fully completed by start of the autumn term in September 2010.

Click here for further information about the building works and to see a full set of detailed plans.

In line with the National Curriculum the school is divided into three Key Stages:

  • Foundation Stage of Learning for our Reception Children;

  • Key Stage 1 which comprises Y1 and Y2, separate class groups;

  • Key Stage 2 comprising Y3 and Y4 classes. Though accommodated in one large classroom the pupils are team taught, by one teacher with Teaching Assistant support, work which is differentiated according to age and ability.

The staff comprises four full-time and one part-time teacher, plus two full-time teaching assistants and one part-time teaching assistant.

It is the vision and desire of the Governing Body and staff to seek to provide a fully-integrated building designed to meet all teaching needs. Currently the Y1 class is taught in a mobile classroom and hall facilities are accommodated within a mobile building.

There is sufficient space on site to enable the development of the school thus facilitating the removal of both temporary buildings and creating a building suited to the meeting of all curriculum needs.
