Titchmarsh Church of England Primary School

Letter from the School Governors to Titchmarsh villagers about the

Proposed Building Works at Titchmarsh Church of England School

On behalf of the Head teacher and Governing Body I am writing to inform you of a proposed building development at the village school. We anticipate will commence at the school in early 2010. It is anticipated that the build will be fully completed in time for the start of the autumn term in September and provide us with much needed space and accommodation for our pupils.

Whilst we are excited at the prospect of having a new hall and classroom facility on site, we view this very much as a wider community project that will bring long term benefit to the community as a whole. A formal planning application will be submitted at the end of August 2009 and statutory consultation will then follow. However, we would like to take this opportunity of providing you with some of the planned detail.

Our Plans

As I am sure you will agree the existing mobile structures that currently serve as a hall and classroom are extremely unsightly and do not provide an ideal schooling environment for our children. The school has recently been awarded funds by the County Council to replace these with permanent buildings that will be more suitable for purpose and be aesthetically sympathetic with the village environment.

In addition to the new hall and classroom, additional toilet facilities and a kitchen area will also be added to the school. We are ever conscious of our immediate neighbours and as a result the proposed design is of a scale which is lower than the main building and will not dominate the surrounding dwellings. The plans also incorporate simple detailing with low maintenance materials.

The proposed materials for the build are:

Walls – coursed limestone with dressed stone window surrounds and quoins. There will be render to part of the rear elevation.

Roof – slates to the main roofs and standing seemed zinc to the lower roof.

Doors and windows – powder coated aluminium.

We would welcome any comments or observations that you may have at this early stage and have therefore made copies of the proposed plans that will be part of the formal planning application. Click below to view the plans. Alternatively, copies of the plans are on display in the Titchmarsh Village Shop.

If you require any further information or wish to provide any input I can be contacted on 07960 588074 or via email kevin@mediaoutcomes.co.uk. I would be grateful if you could provide any feedback by Wednesday 19th August so that they can be taken into account prior to submission of the formal application.

We will of course provide you with regular updates via the Titchmarsh Times throughout the course of the project.
